Joseph Chernick, Ph.D.
Dr. Chernick is Staff Psychologist and Director of Training at the Berkeley Therapy Institute. He provides brief and long-term psychotherapy for adolescents, adults, and the elderly. His areas of expertise include:
- Crisis intervention and treatment
- Mood and anxiety disorders
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (treatment for survivors of violent crime, war atrocities, and natural disasters)
- Substance abuse and addictions
- Work-related stress
- End-of-life issues
- Grief therapy (death, dying, and bereavement – treatment for those with chronic and terminal illnesses, as well as those grieving the loss of significant others)
- Couples therapy
- Sexual dysfunction
- Supervision
- Consultation
Dr. Chernick is also interested in the training and education of therapists and provides continuing education on the theory and practice of supervision. He is also a founding member of (COPE) Consortium Of Psychoanalytic Educators.
