ADD/ADHD Assessment
The staff at Berkeley Therapy Institute has developed a unique set of services for the assessment and treatment of ADHD and ADD disorders for children, adolescents and adults. Individuals with difficulties suggestive of this diagnosis will benefit from a multi-faceted approach which includes the following program components:

-
Individual initial diagnostic interview
-
Testing with Quotient™ ADHD System
-
Group skills training
-
Individual therapy oriented towards adaptive executive functioning
-
Psychopharmacologic treatment

The Quotient™ ADHD System is the first Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved instrument that provides objective information designed to accurately reflect motor activity, sustained attention and impulsivity related to the diagnosis of ADHD. The test takes 15 minutes for children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 15, or 20 minutes for older adolescents and adults. Results from the Quotient™ ADHD test report are integrated with information from the clinical evaluation and other assessment tools to assist in diagnosis, and to guide treatment decisions.

The BTI staff has developed a 6 week psycho-educational skills training group, using a cognitive behavioral approach, through which individuals can benefit from exploring their past difficulties, or by learning from others who have shared similar experiences. With the group meetings, or possibly with individual therapy oriented towards addressing similar coping strategies, individuals can learn a great deal about their less useful adaptive behaviors that have arisen from years of living with attention and focus difficulties.

Some of our patients with ADD/ADHD may choose to pursue pharmacologic treatment. This, in conjunction with the behavioral approaches mentioned above, can be quite useful in leading to improved attentional states.
